  14.     Welcome to the premier issue of TCSB.  TCSB will be featuring 
  15. articles about various topics of interest to those who enjoy  
  16. Telecommunications and computer security as a hobby or profession. 
  17. While some of the information contained in these documents may be 
  18. considered confidential telco information, we at TCSB are not 
  19. publishing this bulletin for the purpose of revealing trade secrets 
  20. or any other implications of industrial espionage, etc., but rather 
  21. a source of information that we hope you enjoy as much as we enjoy 
  22. bringing it to you.

  51.    Little has been documented about the use of the silver box.   
  52. Many assume a silver box is just a set of Autovon keys, or more 
  53. advanced readers may be familiar with its use in conjunction with 
  54. the standard Directory Assistance ACD (Automated Call distributor 
  55. which distributes the calls to the individual Directory Assistance
  56. operators) but in reality there are several applications to the 
  57. hidden row than meets the eye. 
  58.  
  59.    I will not explain the construction methods here, for they are  
  60. widely available on many Telecom-oriented Bulletin board systems, 
  61. but rather go into detail about using them.   
  62.  
  63.    The ACD and DA operators:  The ACD can be reached through calling 
  64.    ------------------------   a directory assistance operator and    
  65.    holding down the D key (941+1633 htz) while the operator answers 
  66.    her console, the tone will trip the circut and drop you into the  
  67.    ACD.  One way to verify that you have tripped the circut is a  
  68.    Stutter-tone, or pulsing dialtone.  From this prompt, you can dial 
  69.    up to 10 possible functions:

  71.       1 - Rings the Toll Text board - Useful if you dont have the 
  72.           numbers on file.   
  73.  
  74.       2 - Sometimes dead circut, other times milliwatt test.  
  75.  
  76.       3 - Sometimes milliwatt, others 1000/1004 htz. tone. 
  77.  
  78.       4 - Usually dead circut 
  79.  
  80.       5 - Always dead circut 
  81.  
  82.       6 - Low end of loop - If your friend calls the ACD on the same 
  83.           op. as you do, and dials 7, you are connected.

  85.       7 - High end of loop.

  87.       8 - 600 ohm termination

  89.       9 - Usually dead circut

  91.       0 - Usually dead circut

  93.         Notes:  If you are having trouble with this method, try the 414 
  94.       DA operator.  It never fails, but the dialtons will sound more  
  95.       like a busy signal than a dialtone. 
  96.          No 'Codes'?  Well, if your friend lives in the same state, 
  97.       arrange to meet on the 800-555-1212 ACD (functions: 6,7.)

  99.       Autovon Tone Set:  The silver box keys also appear on the standard 
  100.       ----------------   Autovon (the military phone network) keypad.

  103.       A - Flash

  105.       B - Flash Override (Priority)

  107.       C - Priority Communication (dial)

  109.       D - Priority Override (used to reach busy numbers in extreme
  110.           emergencies.  When the tone is hit, I believe a flag is 
  111.           set as an emergency condition, and only for top military)

  113. To use the autovon keys, scan for your local  Milnet or Autovon port.   
  114. All numbers are 7 digits (for those of you who insist on trying this,  
  115. please take the proper security measures.)

  117.        Centegram hacking:  Yes, your silver box can also be used for 
  118.        -----------------   hacking earlier versions of Centegram.  While 
  119.        hacking the system administrators box and entering an invalid 
  120.        code, the system will attempt to log you off, but hit 'C' and 
  121.        feast your ears on 'Welcome to the message center...'  Another 
  122.        use in Centegram hacking is when you are entering an auth. code, 
  123.        it will recognize A, B, C, and D as valid digits for added  
  124.        security.
